Will Maltaite Comic
Tout a commencé un soir de février 1958, le vingt-trois pour être exact. Un grand dessinateur de bande dessinée de la fameuse école Belge se démenait comme un beau diable à maîtriser sa traction avant DKW entre les Hêtres de la forêt de Soignes, bordant une route particulièrement enneigée . Il y parvint visiblement, car je ne me fait pas l’effet d’un fantôme à l’heure où je vous écrit ces quelques mots. Par contre il serait malhonnête de ma part de dire que je me souviens de ce premier jour, tout autant que de la fameuse Expo 58. Pourtant j’y ai été et il paraît même que la deuxième fois je l’ai vue de mes yeux vus….
Will (Willy Maltaite)
Généreux, souriant, rigolard, discret, talentueux en diable, cet “hombre” de l’ombre, dessinateur de BD, donna vie, pendant plus de 35 ans, aux célèbres personnages de Tif et Tondu. Sa verve de coloriste et d’aquarelliste l’amena tout naturellement à participer à la création de projets de décors pour des dessins animés, notamment ceux du célèbre Marsupilami sorti de la forêt de Palombie et de l’imagination richissime d’André Franquin. Will est également le créateur de la mignonne Isabelle qui, accompagnée de sa tante Calendula et de l’oncle Hermès, se promène en calèche dans l’univers surréaliste d’une galaxie ambulante.
Mais au-delà des phylactères et des petits “Mickeys”, Will est aussi un peintre à part entière. Fauviste, expressionniste, il joue sensuellement avec les matières et les coloris. La femme, bien entendu, est le centre de toutes ses compositions. C’est une joie de découvrir cette “fesse” cachée de l’artiste. Quelle rondeur, quelle puissance, quelle générosité! Monsieur Choc
Will had by now gradually settled into his own, trademark drawing style. When Maurice Rosy was assigned as the new scriptwriter in 1954, ‘Tif et Tondu’ was finally boosted to the classic it is today. This was mainly established through the introduction of a new master criminal, who made his debut in the new team’s first story, ‘Tif et Tondu contre la Main Blanche’ (1955). The mysterious Monsieur Choc captivated readers from the start. Hidden behind an iron mask and sharply dressed in a chic tuxedo, the “master of evil” was the perfect antagonist for the otherwise rather dull Tif and Tondu. The authors even enjoyed playing with this contrast. Most stories start with Tif and Tondu trying to retire from their many adventures and write their memoirs, when they are pulled into another one of Choc’s schemes. Choc allowed Will and Rosy to step beyond the boundaries of plain adventure stories and delve into fantastic and mystic realms for the standout stories ‘Le Réveil de Toar’ (1966) and ‘Le Grand Combat’ (1967). Even though Will and Rosy’s first collaboration was the fourth ‘Tif et Tondu’ album published, it remained for many years the starting point of the series, since the earlier albums weren’t reprinted until the 1980s.

Willy is a great comicer. He’s really smart, and he works really hard. But there’s one thing that Willy loves more than anything else in the whole world:comic and anime.
Anime is this kind of cartoon that comes from Japan, and it has a lot of cool characters. There are heroes who fight monsters, and there are also villains who do bad things. There are also characters who are just regular people, like you or me!
Willy’s favorite anime character is Pokemon.He said that I was sitting in my room at home, watching TV. It was late at night and I was bored, so I decided to go for a walk.As I walked down the street, something caught my eye. Something yellow and orange. It looked like a Pikachu!I walked over and saw that it was indeed a Pikachu! I had never seen one before, but my friend has one and she told me all about them.
Willy has been collecting anime since he was fifth years old—it’s one of the most important things in his life!
